Season 2 Episode 12 | What They Don’t Tell You About Being a Media Dietitian

Okay besties… we’re pulling back the curtain on this one.

Being a media dietitian can look super fun from the outside. TV segments, brand deals, cool opportunities. But there’s a whole lot that people don’t see.

In this episode, we’re getting real about what it actually takes to build a career in media. From sending 30 pitches to land one opportunity, to contracts coming and going, to figuring things out as you go, we’re sharing the behind the scenes no one really talks about.

We also talk about the highs too. The flexibility, the creativity, the “what’s in my inbox today?” energy, and why, even with the hustle, we wouldn’t trade this career for anything.

If you’ve ever thought about getting into media… this is the real talk you need.

In this episode, we discuss:

• Why media dietitian work is often glamorized (and what’s actually happening behind the scenes)
• The reality of pitching and why 30 pitches might lead to one yes
• What it feels like to get ghosted, hear no, and keep going anyway
• Why contracts come and go and how to handle that without spiraling
• The importance of diversifying your income streams
• Building something that’s actually yours (not just working for brands)
• Gatekeeping in the industry and why community matters more
• Fighting to get paid your worth (and why it’s so important)
• The learning curve of media work and figuring it out as you go
• Flexibility vs hustle and how both exist at the same time
• Why this career can feel lonely and how community changes everything

Key Takeaways:

• It’s normal to send a LOT of pitches before landing one opportunity.
• Not hearing back doesn’t mean you failed, timing matters.
• Opportunities build over time, it really is a snowball effect.
• Diversifying your income protects you when things change.
• You have to advocate for your worth, no one else will do it for you.
• This work has a learning curve, and that’s okay.
• Flexibility is amazing, but it still requires hustle.
• Community makes everything easier, faster, and way more fun.

If you’ve been dreaming about this kind of career, this is your reminder that it’s possible… and also totally normal for it to feel messy at first.
